If you do plan on putting a book on Amazon, you'll have to put a note in the book to say something o the sort that publisher fonts need to be turned on as Amazon in it's infinite stupidity decided that embedded fonts are not on by default with KF8 eBooks. You have to use the images for Mobi eBooks since Mobi doesn't support fonts.
Wolfie:

Pay attention. He's not talking about something like images of text, or text; he's talking about ICONS. Every bloody icon in the world is an image in an eBook. Just because bloody Bootstrap uses Fonticons means nothing. It's ridiculous to say that using images for icons "looks AWFUL" and more importantly, it's simply not true.

I'd also remind you that 50% of the world has eBook readers that don't support embedded fonts. Of all the people I've queried, outside of MR, that own PPW devices or that family, you know how MANY know what a damned Publisher Font is, or to turn it on, or that it's turned off by default? Wanna guess?

NOT ONE. Not one damned person I've ever asked. You think putting some statement in an eBook, in a day and age in which most readers don't bother reading the front-matter, (and will thus miss this statement/instruction) is going to address that? And what happens when those same readers see empty boxes or other weirdness, in the 'wrong" font? There's no way to create a media query to display images, if a given font is NOT used. So, you think it's a brilliant idea to show all those people garbaged icons? Just because YOU think that using images, for icons--which are PICTURES, Jon--is some sin against bookmaking? Pah on that.

You're not thinking, and you're just spewing. I'm fond of you, but I really do wish that you would stop and THINK sometimes before running off like this. You reacted to something without thinking. You're putting this guy on the path to a KQN/Kindle Quality Notice, for NO good reason.

Rant warning: And on top of that, Jon, which FONT are you going to embed, for a Bootstrap Fonticon, anyway???? Glyphicon? Fontawesome? You ever used Fontawesome? [I have, on my own site, BTW]. Ever download it--ever notice what SIZE it is? Do you know that many Bootstrap websites have switched, from Glyphicons to SVG, because of the problem with devices--including computers and phones--not honoring the private glyph/unicode area? But, hey, for no reason whatsoever, we'll just leap into using them as fonticons, for eBooks?

They are PICTURES, For crying out loud!

C'mon, Jon. Don't make this guy's life harder for NO DAMNED REASON. Your opinions are your opinions, but in this one, you're way out in left field. If this were text, I might agree with you, but it's NOT.
