I've heard good things about the Nook Glowlight 3 screen, but in all the other respects it seems to be somewhat of a PITA, especially sideloading. I've no personal experience with it, I've only read the posts here on MR.
The Voyage has the best contrast of all the Kindles.
As to Kobos, again no personal experience, but the posters here praised the Kobo Glo HD screen a couple of years back. Unfortunately it's been discontinued, but it might still be available from Ebay etc.
