I've never seen that. Calibre uses the operating system to detect the device so it's hard to visualize how a device could be recognized by the computer (i.e., you could access the exposed partition as a storage device) and yet not have calibre be able to access that storage device.

Could you supply more details such as type of ereader, computer, USB port type, etc.?
