Kindle Developer's Corner subforum is where discussion of Kindle mods takes place.
Kindles are generally pretty locked down. Jailbreaks have been discovered for some firmware versions, but I don't recall anyone ever mentioning the Kindle X model. You are probably on you own to figure it out.
Some Kindle models have an internal serial port than can be accessed if you open the device and attach extra hardware. Again, once you have access to the Kindle's console you would have to figure out what to do with it.
It is unknown if that model uses the same hardware as a different model and could run some other existing firmware even if you figure out a way to get it installed.
One more thing. Access to Amazon to obtain Kindle books after installing new firmware would probably not be possible because the device would have a serial number that does not match the installed firmware type.
