do the same again, only this time, inbetween the "restarted" and the "re-copied" let the Kindle come up and make sure there is no trace of the previous MrPI(s), either in the gui, accessible from the search bar or visible over USB.


I suspect you are not actually replacing the one which is in use, the one with the problem. I.E: There is two or more copies installed (somewhere).
Perhaps associated with a stale or modified "runme" file.
