This series of amusing short stories was not collected until 2015, although nine of them had appeared in a Wallace collection called "The Undisclosed Client and Other Stories".
They are the tales of Police Constable Lee, on the beat in Notting Dale, which was then a notoriously deprived slum squeezed between Notting Hill to the east, Shepherds Bush to the west, and Holland Park to the south.
(Modern real estate agents like to pretend the modern gentrified Notting Dale is fashionable Notting Hill, and the infamous name Notting Dale is seldom heard.)
