As far as I know, the text, if converted with PDFRead will not be searchable because it will actually be an image of the text. You won't be able to change the text size or zoom.

There are readers that will read pdfs of technical manuals natively (not the Kindles) but I don't know which ones would be able to search them (maybe the Sony 700?).
