a stuck indexing routine could be to blame but that should stop
all new books from showing ?
I have a feeling that amazon will just put you through the soft reset, hard reset, any other reset they can think of routine then give up & suggest you buy a new one, and it may not be easy to track down another PW2 owner to to the same book-by-book tests with.
you mention one non drmed book from amazon - is that a free something we could grab from store & test with ?
if you have sufficient curiosity and patience, you could maybe remove ALL books and ALL docs from device , then start adding the suspect ones one at a time & testing to see if they show up
