I've never had ads on any of my Kindles. I've always either bought the version without them or, if that wasn't in stock, removed them immediately. That's true of both my e-ink Kindles and my Fire tablets.

I was given a Fire tablet to give to someone in my retirement home and it has ads so I haven't paid to remove them since I'm not keeping it. While I'm looking for someone to give it to I've been playing with it and they really bother me.

A couple of interesting items I recall from maybe 30 or 40 years ago: two organizations representing egg growers and hot dog makers applied to the FDA for permission to sell advertising space on eggs and on hot dogs. The FDA turned them down. This really happened, at least according to whichever newspaper I read in those days, probably the Houston Chronicle. I do realize our economy is, in large part, based on advertising but that doesn't make it any less obscene.

Perhaps the next thing advertisers will try is to pay hospitals to tattoo ads onto newborn babies.
