OK ... OK ... You fixed it for me.

I know for a fact that this was a new 'default' setting in LibreOffice 6 because I didn't have the problem with the older version. And it's not anything I would have looked for or changed.

So, in the left corner of the menu bar, I selected "Heading 1" Click the arrow, clicked through the tabs until I saw one titled "Outline & Numbering"

One of the boxes was ticked, the one that said "Include this paragraph in line numbering"

I unclicked it, tested again, and it works like a charm.

Thank you so much for your help. This has really been bugging me.

Now that I have used WPS Writer, I notice it is MUCH faster that LO. But LO has so many more features. But the frustration over this simple setting was intense.
