I had a problem with the wi fi of my KA1 but now seems almost solved with the firmware 4.12.12111. And the problem was not exactly like yours, it saw the wi fii but simply wanted the password every time, and sometimes it refused the connection anyway. Also, when I needed to make a factory reset, after updating the firmware with the wi fii (then 4.10 or 4.11 and something) to latest version, my Kobo did not want to enter my account and I had to use Kobo desktop.

I really don't know which kind of problem on Your Kobo can cause that issue, may be an hardware problem? Or some strange software problem? I imagine my problem was a combination of both, wi fii sensor not very good and firmware not very good.

The only advice I can give you is to use Kobo Desktop and see if any firmware update will be useful in the future.
