I've asked the same question regarding firmware 1.9.1 for Boox i86ML Plus. The answer I've received was

Hi, we do not have a plan to release English version firmware 1.9.1 for now. And we do not advise you update the firmware of your device to the Chinese version firmware 1.9.1. The Chinese version is not suitable for foreign users and the firmware cannot be downgraded after updating to v1.9.1.
