The full screen mode (hide header and footer) in 4.12.12111 is the same for both epubs and kepubs. And, on all my devices, the top and bottom margins are the same for both formats. Or near enough that I can't see the difference.

Are you seeing something different to that? Can you see a difference in top margin for the two formats?
I have an H2O Edition 2 v1, and prior to this update I was running 4.10.11655. I had full screen mode enabled via the config file and had adjusted the margins to my liking (roughly 5mm on all four sides) via kobo_extra.css. I used epubs exclusively due to the issue where kepubs would get the right margin text chopped off. All was right with the world.

After installing 4.12.12111 (and with no other changes) the side margins were the same as before but the top and bottom were much larger. With the header and footer disabled via the new settings the top and bottom margins were the same size as when the header and footer were enabled, but there was just blank space there.

I switched over to kepub and it seems to have solved my problem. With the header and footer disabled via the new settings I can tweak the margins in the font screen to achieve more or less the same setup as I had on 4.10. I haven't observed the kepub chopped text problem on 4.12.

If you're really interested I can provide some screenshots, but I've already converted my library to kepub and it's working nicely .

The 4.12 problem with epubs may well have been my own fault. When adding books to my library I convert them all to epub and try and standardise the formatting as much as possible. Either my workflow or my kobo_extra.css may have been causing the problem.
