 In my world, I've seen "deprecated" used as "we do not recommend use as it will be 
removed in a future release."  That function was deprecated in release 2.7.15 and removed in release 2.9.31 as an example.
As for the meaning in other areas for deprecate?  Abhor is my favourite.
