Freezing is likely a result of data corruption. Have you tried to reformat and reload your books? There may be no need to abandon your Sony. I've had my Sony PRS-505 for over 12 years and it still works as well as the day I bought it. The only reason I moved to Kindle was for the frontlight and resizable fonts (eyes are not what they were 12 years ago).
