Even when you get the fonts to be inserted into the list (and I guess you will have to ask for a patch to achieve this), you will further have to ask for a patch that makes nickel access your preferred font at start up, which is the whole point of your efforts if I understand correctly. Be aware that nickel accesses only 3 of the at start up (= before you open a book), unless this has changed very recently.
When I remember correctly, there is another obstacle: nickel expects these fonts to be encrypted.
