Just finished "The Weapon", by Jack Williamson, bought from Baen in 2005. This is set in the same universe as the earlier novel, "Freehold", but it's not really a sequel and can be read perfectly well as a standalone. Military SF about a "black-ops" soldier's career. Enjoyable, although I found the not terribly subtle politics a little annoying at times (although not nearly to the same extent that John Ringo pushes his political agenda).

Recommended.
