Unfortunately, they essentially just seem to use the USB-C form factor and none of the features. Power delivery is not implemented, so you cannot charge from an actual USB-C charger (only a plain USB-A charger using a USB-A-to-C cable), so using the same cable to charge, eg, your laptop and your eReader is off the table.
I also tried with a USB-C monitor and as I expected there is no output for video.
I didn't try with a USB dongle via HDMI, but there's no reason to expect that that would work if an actual USB-C monitor doesn't get input.
I also tried accessing a USB stick via my USB-C dongle, which also does not work for me. At least on older onyx readers they had deactivated otg in the firmware for battery conservation reasons. I think there were people who tried workarounds for that, but I don't recall if they were successful or if anything similar would work in the newer devices.
So unfortunately it seems the use of USB-C on the device is largely cosmetic.
