I suspect no one knows whether your scheme will work, but since your version is lower than the factory version it is very reasonable to expect going straight to the factory version could work. I also suspect no one will know until someone tries it. Since your PW3 is not fresh out of the box new, a reset might be a good idea.

Thanks for your answer but nevermind, when looking up the serial number I realized the Kindle I had in mind isn't even a PW3 but a PW2. Too bad.
