I'll be interested in reading what the Editors have to say about Nathan Hale's last words before he was hanged by the British. Of course, the prevailing thought among us in America is that he said, "I regret that I have but one life to give for my country." In fact, that, like Washington chopping down the cherry tree, is a myth. There was a wide range of reports--many conflicting-- about what Hale said; we probably will never know the truth.

Actually, as I understand it the report of Hale's words at the gallows came from John Montresor, the British officer who was present.
