One post from a few years back suggests that if using sftp I should set the sftp server path to /mnt/onboard/.kobo/usbnet/sftp-server but that doesn't work probably as there is no .kobo/usbnet on the device. (the advice was from an earlier version of KSM).

Any thoughts anyone ?

I think you need the following:

• You need the vlasovsoft package on the device. All you need is to copy the vlasovsoft folder (which you can find in http://pbchess.vlasovsoft.net/files/...11.23_kobo.zip) copy into the folder .adds.
• Enable the use of dropbear: use "configure" in KSM to set [general]useDropbear=True. (If you do not see "configre" then "toggle between full and short menue")
• You also have to set a password, cf. http://wiki.vlasovsoft.net/doku.php?id=en:wifiserver. Sergey is there talking specifically about connecting via wifi, but it should be valid for usbnet too.

I have to admit that I never tried this myself.
