The book partition is a partition on the internal SD card. There are two others plus areas where the boot image and kernel are written. The device presents only the book partition to the computer when it is connected. Nothing you do it will have an affect on the other partitions.

Others have commented on the MAC address changing at times. I haven't noticed it happen here. I don't whitelist the devices, but I do assign an IP address on the router in the DHCP configuration. If the MAC address changed, I'd get a different IP address, but, I haven't noticed that recently.
