I went from "I'll never allow one of those newfangled listening devices in my house" to "I want an Echo Dot in every room". Being a decades long computer engineer concerned about privacy and security I initially viewed these "toys" with skepticism. But over the last year of owning them (now eight of them!) I have changed my mind. Massively helpful when cooking the Thanksgiving meal - we had tons of different food timers going in parallel. We're instructing the things to do something helpful for us all the time now. A home intercom system that stretches across houses in different states? No problem. Buy 'em on sale - like right now - otherwise they're a little too expensive.
