I've had the device for 3 days and read about 6 hours on it and have not even had one freeze or crash (I did lock it in portrait mode for rotation). I also cannot detect any screen flickering using the cell phones on slow mode, waving a pencil or naked eye.
I love how it feels to hold when reading as well. I do have a cover coming so hope that doesn't change that too much.
So I am very happy with the purchase overall. The only niggle I have is the light band, but I don't really notice it when i'm reading so it's ok.
So thanks to the people who posted that their devices were fine. It helped me risk the lottery and I ended up with a really good ereader that I'm happy with.

i'm pleased you are happy with your Kobo Forma. no one should have to feel like they are entering into a lottery when they buy an ereader.
