You need to do some tests to see where the problem is - with the Kindle or with the books.
Reset to factory settings, which will wipe out all the books downloaded onto it. Then just download and read one book on it, preferably one obtained from directly from Amazon. Does the problem still occur? If it does, it's the Kindle. Contact Customer Service and see what they'll do for you.
If the problem goes away, only add books one at a time that you're going to read immediately for a while, to confirm that the problem's still gone.
