The firmware version is 5.9.7 and it does not give me the option to upgrade.
Any thoughts?

The only time I've had this kind of problem with a Kindle is when I've had a book that (somehow) wasn't formatted right for the device. Do you know if this happens on a particular book — or just any book?
I'm guessing you can't return it for a replacement.
You can upgrade the Voyage to 5.10.1.1 manually if you want, but be aware that once you've done that, you can't drop back to 5.9.7. I don't know if there is any advantage, but if there is some kind of corruption in the current firmware, it might clear that.

Or, as an alternate route, you could try downloading the 5.9.7 firmware again and reinstalling it manually.
It's available at:

These are a couple things I would try, but they may not be the best choices. You might want to wait for someone who knows Kindles a little better than I do.
Hopefully someone will be able to help get your Voyage up and running right.
