Reeve, Arthur B:. The Exploits of Elaine (1915), v2

The huge success of Pearl White in the cliff-hanger serial "The Perils of Pauline" saw Pearl White back in peril in another serial, "The Exploits of Elaine" (1914), the script of which was written by Arthur B Reeve and Charles Goddard, and featured Craig Kennedy as the man constantly rescuing Elaine from the villain's machinations.

In 1915 the book version appeared, with a still from the movie as a frontispiece. The book, too, is naturally an episodic cliffhanger, not in the Craig Kennedy mainstream style.

Elaine Dodge's millionaire father is murdered by a mysterious villain known as The Clutching Hand, and Elaine recruits Kennedy to help her hunt down the malefactor.

The success of this serial spawned two more "Elaine" serials, both published as books by Reeve: "The Romance of Elaine" and "The Triumph of Elaine." **

The book is now extremely rare, specially with the original dust jacket. A copy with dust jacket is for sale in a rare book dealership for over $2,000! This edition uses the original dust jacket as cover, and the original frontispiece, a still from the movie serial.

** "The Triumph of Elaine" is in fact the UK title of "The Romance of Elaine". There were only two serials, and two books.
