I‘ve tried reading more technical philosophy and more complicated non fiction as well as some more difficult novels for years, and it simply does not work for me, the text is just too fragmented...
(I‘ve switched to an iPad Pro 10 for that and it has just the right size, plus PDFs have the added benefit of fixed layouts which generally helps me memorize stuff by picturing the page layout)
That may be true for you and a significant number of others, but as long as there are not a lot of complicated figures, mathematical formulas, or computer program source code, I can and do read non-fiction just fine on a 6" screen and I am not alone.
