External GPS seems like a good idea indeed. Are you using it in a car for turn by turn or just for outdoor activities?
Are you happy with the thinkpad keyboard? Does the nub work and if so does can you follow the cursor on the screen? It seems a bit expensive but having a thinkpad keyboard sounds very tempting
