Importing Books: Getting date from file attributes

When adding a book by single directory, is there a way for Calibre to fetch the file's 'last modified' date and set that as the date/timestamp?

I've been looking at the documentation for calibredb, but I'm afraid command-line isn't really my strong suit.

Thanks again.
