If by "restore" you mean that you installed KBStartMenu_09_restore.zip, then there is no need for Update2. For clarification, you should use KBStartMenu_09_restore.zip only when KSM does not start at all after a firmware update that you by accident installed completely (uncontrolled instead of controlled). If KSM is working then there is no benefit in applying KBStartMenu_09_restore.zip. Even when KBStartMenu_09_restore.zip is applied, update 2 is not reversed (it is still in place on your device).
To the main problem. I understand that after you select "start nickel", you see the kobo animation and after some time the kobo/nickel home. The device does however not react to touch input. Is this correct?
You might look in .kobo whether there are some error log files.
