Certainly the H2O Edition 2 v1 has the grid and, as far as I know, the only change for the H2O Edition 2 v2 was the processor, not the screen.

You can see the grid here https://hd.tudocdn.net/677628 though that photo has clearly had some contrast adjustment as the black/white balance is extreme and greater than in real life.

I can see the grid if looking through a macro lens or if looking very, very close up in very good light, but it's not at all visible in normal use.

The H2O Edition 2 v1 does have a slightly greyer background than other Kobos I have when the frontlight is turned off. That, I suspect, is the effect of the grid lines.
