I went to John Lewis today but they didn't have any Kobo Clara's on display, nor did they have any in stock. The salesperson we spoke to (I went with a friend) said that they only had Kindles on display. I mentioned that they have them on their online shop. He suggested that I order it from there and if I don't like it, I can send it back. So I enquired about whether I'd have to pay the postage costs of sending it back. He suggested I could return it to the shop instead of sending it to the online store, which sounds a bit odd to me.
We also looked in WH Smith. They had some Kobo's on display, but not the Clara. However, they were all "dead". When I eventually found an assistant she had no idea how to use them and couldn't get past the "log into your wifi" demand. I asked her if there were any books loaded onto the reader, but she didn't know, saying that if I asked her about paperbacks she'd know what she was talking about.
So we left, none the wiser.
I'll probably just order one from John Lewis online, at least the guy at the shop had some idea about ereaders, even though they didn't stock the model. I just hope he was correct regarding the ability to return an online purchase to the real life shop.
Oh well, you never know, it might just be perfect and have a great screen with no unacceptable light issues.
Thought I would let you know how things went.
