"Thumbing" through a couple of the books, it looks like the "Basic" level book might not be too technical for self-study for anyone posting or monitoring this thread, provided that they are self-motivated, have good power of concentration, etc.

It's amazing how many professions nowadays use statistics and in how many majors in college (at least)--everything from marketing to physics to biology--require at least one statistics course.

My palms still get sweaty when I remember the statistics class that I had in college. I think that the terror then was pretty common among most of the students, though. A friend of mine used to refer to the course as "sadistics" instead of statistics.
