Yes there is a need to protect intellectual property rights and maintain profitability, but that does not necessarily require the use of DRM. I think that's where some of the pro-DRM people miss the point. Many anti-DRM people are not saying IP rights are bad; they're saying don't use something that doesn't work and just annoys paying customers.

You couldn't be more right. I'm not anti-copyright, I'm anti ridiculous, out-of-date, non-working copyright. Creative Commons already provides a brilliant intellectual property license for any creator, that is very flexible and modern in its approach.
