Since you listed "The Maze Runner" series as something you enjoyed, but found "The Stand" a bit slow to get started, you might consider some other young adult post-apocalyptic series such as:
  • The Hunger Games
  • Allegiant
  • The Wasteland Saga

Another I enjoyed was Hugh Howley's "Silo" series, which I think fits into this style of post-apocalyptic books.

I think others like "The Stand", "The Road", etc., are longer, darker, and/or deeper in comparison to "The Maze Runner".
