There are fake "announcements" that people are instructed to touch, to copy & paste, and send to everybody they know. What the announcements *say*, is that many people are doing duplicate "friend me" requests, with fake names, and that they can steal your whole life away if you friend them. This is no more true than it has always been (fake friends can read what you wrote) but there are NOT a glut of these fake friendings happening. Just the message that is itself chewing up bandwidth and storage space, as it is spread across the world. (Like it tells you to do.)
