It's not free anymore (it was apparently just free yesterday), but a slightly different edition is $1.99 today. Again, apparently only at Christianbook and B&N.

It's a popular paraphrase. I find it to be less heavy-handed than The Living Bible and not as theologically narrow as The Message. I personally don't use it much, but a church I attend occasionally has the NLT as its pew Bible.
