Just because you find it to be expensive and not worth it doesn't make your opinion a given for the rest of human kind.
I bought my KA1 exactly two years ago, which boils its costs down to 10€ per month. As ebooks are cheaper than paper books I still save a lot of money on books compared to my pre-reader spending AND have a better reading experience.
I also use the library heavily since I got an ereader. When it meant going to the library to borrow books I never did that, because I always ended up being late and paying fines. I do read two to three books per week and used to spend between 200€ and 400€ per month on books. Now I am down to maybe 20€ monthly.
I'd gladly spend 500€ every two years on a new ereader if they'd cost as much and still be a happy money saving camper.

For me it is a matter of perspective. Ereaders are one of my few indulgences. I buy every new Kobo and Kindle as soon as they hit the market.
My car is 14 years old and often stalls without warning, providing my friends with great amusement. But I could care less, I am not a car guy, I'm a book guy.
The delicious anticipation I feel waiting to finally get my hands on a new Ereader is more viseral than a ride in a fancy car. Reading a great book on that Ereader is way more fun to me than the new car smell.
So, I don't believe the Kobo Forma is over priced at all. I will receive way more than $280 worth of enjoyment from it, making it a bargain.
To each his, or her, own perspective on cost and value.
