Settles what? The article only says they raised the minimum pay. That is independent if they were competitive with similar (un)skilled labor in the area or not. The article also mentions that Amazon wants to attract more people to work for them. Only way to do that is to pay more than other employers in the area. The one scary thing in the article is the want to lobby for a new federal minimum wage of $15. If that were to happen overnight, then what is going to happen with entry factory jobs, for example. Where I live even $15 is a relatively high starting wage in a factory for unskilled. Many skilled positions start out at around $15. Why would I want to work in a factory, if I could just flip burgers and make just as much.
