Just had the same sort of thing happen to me, but I didn't get anything extra added to my coupon balance.

Apparently the checkout system is only adding one coupon at at time--I had two expiring $5 coupons, and it would apply only one to the purchase. CS replaced them with a single $10 coupon, which would have worked, but since they set the expiration for a year from now, I ended up deciding to hold on to the coupon till I find something better.
