Just for clarity, Jon, you CAN turn off any Kindle. Just press the power button and hold it until the message pops up. Say "Yes" and it shuts down. As for battery life, the Oasis is hard to beat. OK, I agree, the battery in the cover is a really crap idea. But the result is an eReader I can easily get a solid week of reading out of. And I read a LOT.
