Sir Basil Thomson (1861-1939) was a colonial administrator, intelligence officer, and Assistant Commissioner, Crime, at Scotland Yard (head of the CID).
He was also a prolific writer of non-fiction and fiction works, including a detective series featuring Inspector Richardson of the CID, and the Mr Pepper stories of an amateur investigator.
This is the third of the Inspector Richardson series which runs to at least eight cases.
