I recently jailbroke a sealed PW3 ... I restarted the device when it got to the WiFi connect screen (by holding down the power button and choosing restart option), and it rebooted to the home screen, skipping registration and WiFi connect allowing me to safely check the firmware version. It was on 5.8.9.0.1 and was plain sailing from there on ...
