Agree with the above, I don't really see what modes you would have and how this would work, other than making device activation manual - in your example - why would wireless always be on? The button would activate it and do a search, then after a period of inactivity, switch itself off again.
Same with processor speed right? Unless the pen is out, with good pre-page loading the processor speed can be low for instance ...
The device is appealing because it's simple, keep it simple but make power management automatically effective.
