Tug, first you should check if the .bin file is even accepted by your kindle. There is no risk of bricking

Download the file for KT3. (it is important it is 5.8.0 for KT3 and not another file)

Check the md5 hash sum of the file and make sure it is the same as in the wiki.

Copy the file into the main directory of your kindle.

Safely unplug it. If the kindle accepts the file the menu "update your kindle" will appear.

If it doesn't accept the file it will just delete it and not even give the option of pressing the button. (hence not allowing you to downgrade)
