thx theducks. silly me .. trying to open/manage a book (Unity/C++ manual) published asa pdf in Calibre.
O.K. then, no diss intended but, o.k. whatsa ebook format, lets try *.epub, nope, no listing for Calibre to be set as win10 default. howabout *.mobi. nope. oh dear.
worst case, shirly Calibre should distribute thru the Borg's app store ???
