There are 7 books in the "Clubfoot" series of secret agent action novels, featuring Dr Grundt, an agent of the German government as the "baddie". The first appeared in 1918 with Dr Grundt an agent of the German Kaiser around the outbreak of WW1, and concluding in 1944 with Dr Grundt an agent of the Nazis. The titles are:

1918 The Man with the Clubfoot
1922 The Return of Clubfoot
1924 Clubfoot the Avenger
1928 The Crouching Beast
1932 The Gold Comfit Box
1936 The Spider's Touch
1944 Courier to Marrakesh

The last of the Clubfoot stories, set in the short period between the Allied invasion of Southern Italy after Salerno in late 43, but before Anzio in early 44.

A pretty U.S.O. singer survives an air crash in Morocco, and while recovering in Marrakesh falls into an series of events that result in her reaching Italy, and then the Open City of Rome, coming under the beady eyes of Dr Adolph Grundt, aka Clubfoot, now a loyal Nazi agent.
