The 4 year old cat has a new trick of getting onto the window sill behind the blind of the bedroom window above the bed. Then jumping down next to me when I have no idea she's there. Gave me a real shock the first time she did it.

Back when I had a staircase in my bedroom, one of my three-legged cats (Cameron), used to climb to the very top of the stairs, and then leap out from there ... almost like a swan dive .... to land on my bed.
She was (and still is) perfectly capable of just jumping up onto the bed from the floor. But, nooooooo .... she had to make that 10 foot leap every night after I would turn out the lights.
So, the lights would go out, and I'd lie there in bed for about a minute, then there would be this THUMP as she hit the bed, and then she'd come snuggle up with me.
Oddly, even though there is an 8 foot high cat platform next to my bed now, she doesn't leap from the top of that to the bed (which is why I built the thing as I did .... so she could continue doing her dives). I guess it's just not as good as the staircase.
