The metadata download not downloading the series info usually means that the site the metadata is coming from has changed and the metadata source plugin for that site hasn't been updated and released yet. My guess is that you are using Goodreads for the metadata as that changed a week or so ago. I have put a beta with the fix for this and a few other things in the Goodreads plugin thread. The update should be released officially later in the week.
